Tuning in to watch the gymnastics finals and witnessing athletes break new world records has sparked our curiosity (and not just about how they transport horses from Australia to Paris for the Equestrian competitions!). It got us thinking about the experiences we have here in the Causeway Coast & Glens where we can embrace our inner Olympian. To our delight, we discovered that we have plenty!

Carrowmena Activity Centre and Limitless Adventure Centre, both located in Limavady, offer thrilling archery experiences suitable for all levels with stunning views out over Binevenagh Mountain – an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Xplore Outdoors also offer canoeing experiences along the River Bann, as do Revive North Coast; a purpose-driven adventure company that gives back to the local community with every booking. You can also visit Carrowmena Activity Centre in Limavady for canoeing experiences along the River Roe, or The Lake in Kilrea - an outdoor waterpark perfect for a fun-filled day. Golf

When it comes to golf destinations in Northern Ireland, the Causeway Coast & Glens get the gold! With its rich golfing history, the area is home to numerous top-tier golf courses, including the prestigious Royal Portrush Golf Club, which will host The 153rd Open in July 2025. Throughout the region, you’ll find many more, including Roe Park Resort in Limavady and Ballycastle Golf Club, with its incredible views over the Sea of Moyle and out to Rathlin Island.

Sailing

Embrace the magnificence of the ocean with various sailing experiences across the region. From kite surfing and windsurfing along the beaches to lessons at local yacht clubs, there's something for every level of experience. Causeway Coast Sailing offers yacht sailing experiences from Ballycastle and Rathlin Island, providing a unique way to explore the coastline. Coleraine Yacht Club can even teach you how to hoist your own sails with their Dinghy Keelboat and Multihull courses! Shooting

For a unique twist on traditional shooting sports, visit Limitless Adventure Centre for laser clay shooting where you’ll learn to aim and shoot correctly while being guided by professionals. In keeping with the Olympic spirit, this August, the Route Gun Club on Ballybogey Road is hosting the Home International Olympic Skeet Championship (OSK HCIT 2024). We’re sure the many competitors will enjoy seeing the local sights of the Causeway Coast & Glens during their time here (good luck, everyone!)

Sport Climbing

If climbing is your sport of choice, Revive North Coast offers outdoor rock climbing and abseiling experiences. These adventures will test your strength and agility, similar to the sport climbing events seen in the Olympics (and, we reckon, are even more challenging). In Limavady, Carrowmena Activity Centre has huge outdoor climbing frames, as well as other fun activities like ziplining, canoeing, orienteering and more. For an aquatic twist on climbing sports, head to The Lake in Kilrea, where their giant inflatable water obstacle courses feature climbing walls, as well as super tall slippery slides and the chance to do some open water swimming.

Surfing

The Causeway Coast & Glens is every surfer’s dream with numerous beaches and excellent surfing conditions. Providers like Portrush Surf School, Active Adventures NI, Sub6, Long Line Surf School, and Troggs Surf School offer rentals, lessons, and courses to help you catch the perfect wave in some of Northern Ireland’s most scenic spots!

Enjoy a game of tennis at scenic locations like Ballycastle Tennis Courts, located by the town's seafront, or at Benone Tourist Complex, right by the beach.
