Ever wanted to learn how our talented local food producers create such incredible and tasty products? Well now you can!
The Économusée project is a Québec inspired tourism initiative that encourages visitors to watch the artisan at work whilst offering them the opportunity to discover the beautiful and indigenous crafts that are all produced onsite, learning about the history of the craft and the cultural heritage behind the skill.
Here are the Économusées you can visit during your next visit to the Causeway Coast and Glens:
Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil Farm
Rapeseed oil is produced from the oilseed plant and comes from the same Brassica family as broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower. The owners of Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil farm offer tours allowing visitors to uncover the process involved in the production of their award-winning Oil which comes in a variety of flavours, including chilli, lemon, garlic, Thai and hickory smoked. Visitors will get a full tour of the pressing room and farm yard which normally lasts approximately 1 hour.

Broughgammon Farm
Broughgammon Farm, located just outside the seaside town of Ballycastle, is a forward thinking family farm with a deep rooted drive for sustainability. The farm is open to the public every Friday-Sunday from 11am-4pm. The farm shop and cafe is also open during this time and they have a delicious menu available as well as Bailies coffee, tea and homemade cakes created using foraged ingredients. They also have a farm shop which stocks their ethical meat, abernathy butter, raw milk, corndale salami, ferments, corleggy cheese, young buck cheese, homegrown veg and lots more! Guided tours that include samples of their award winning produce are available but these have to be booked in advance.
North Coast Smokehouse
North Coast Smokehouse specialise in producing smoked foods naturally, in the picturesque coastal town of Ballycastle in County Antrim. Some of their produce includes award-winning smoke-roasted organic salmon, smoked sea salt, and smoked dulse seaweed, smoked black pepper, smoked rapeseed oil and smoked trout. At North Coast Smokehouse, you can learn about the traditional craft of smoking food, how it links us to our past and how it has been adapted for the modern world. Visit and see what they do in their ‘raw room’, ‘smoke room’ and ‘packing room’.
Ursa Minor Bakehouse
Also situated in Ballycastle is Ursa Minor - a café and bake house which aims to provide its customers with delicious organically baked goods. Keen to keep the business on a sustainable scale, Ursa Minor’s finished products have very low transport miles and are exclusively available in this area of the Causeway Coast. By following the storyboards downstairs below their cafe, visitors to the Bakehouse can learn a little about what they do at Ursa Minor, how they do it and why. Visitors can book in for a workshop or tour where the team will show you around and explain in more detail how they make the bread, showing different techniques.
Chocolate Manor
Chocolate is like a universal language, and for many the prospect of exploring the wonderful world of cocoa is an enticing prospect. The Chocolate Manor, based on Main Street in Castlerock, offers unique hands-on bespoke chocolate experiences. When you visit, you can watch the chocolatiers handcrafting chocolates, and then follow the storyboards dotted throughout the workshop allowing visitors to discover the history of the chocolate making process and the artisan chocolatier. You are invited to experience, experiment and indulge by adding distinctive and local flavours to create your own unique handcrafted chocolate treats, or simply visit the Chocolate Shop and pick up some indulgent artisan chocolates!
Fidela Coffee Roasters
Founded by Frank and Rachel, who discovered the exciting potential of coffee during their visit to Frank's family farms in Colombia's Nariño region, Fidela Coffee Roasters offer an inside look at the different processes involved from growing, farming, exporting and brewing coffee. In 2017, they established their own coffee laboratory in Colombia, educating and supporting farmers beyond the crop. In 2019, Fidela Coffee Roasters was established in Coleraine, sourcing beans from their relatives' and friends' Nariño farms. Their aim is to import more green coffee, support farmers, and create new opportunities and markets within the coffee industry. Not only do Fidela Coffee provide ethically sourced and traceable coffee, they also offer classes for coffee enthusiasts, including home espresso, home brewing, and latte art courses, and roastery tours with coffee tasting. Join them on a journey from farm to cup, discovering the dedication and quality that goes into each sip.
