The Causeway Coast and Glens is dotted with towns and villages, each with their own history, culture and attractions. What they do have in common, is a warm welcome for visitors. From fishing villages to coastal resorts and market towns nestled in the countryside, be sure to stop by.
Coleraine
Coleraine is where man first settled on the island of Ireland at Mountsandel. It is now the principal town in the Causeway Coast and Glens. Soaked in history, with charm and character, Coleraine is a university town. Delve into its past or enjoy riverside walks on the banks of the River Bann.
Ballycastle
This seaside town in the Causeway Coast and Glens is regularly named the Best Place to Live by the Sunday Times. You’ll need to take a trip to fully appreciate the experience. But think beaches, boats, seafood, traditional music, centuries of history and of course, people. Are you interested yet?
Ballymoney
All roads lead to Ballymoney if you’re a motorcycling fan. Its celebrated sons, the Dunlops are remembered at the Memorial Gardens. Want to find out more about their roots? Trace their history and the town’s at the local museum. Plus, the rural surroundings of Ballymoney are a joy to explore.
Limavady
Steeped in history, Limavady is synonymous with The Londonderry Air, aka ‘Danny Boy’. A trip to Limavady is good for the soul. Some retail therapy in this welcoming market town will lift your spirits. Walking at Binevenagh Mountain, the Roe Valley Country Park and Benone Beach brings peace and tranquillity.
Portrush
Portrush and holidays just go together. The pretty harbour town undoubtedly has the X factor. From bars and restaurants to kids’ entertainment and golf to water sports, you won’t be short of experiences. Let’s throw in a bit of history too, from Vikings to Medieval times to World War II.
Portstewart
Portstewart has got such a welcoming vibe. The food offering is as wonderful, as it is varied. Fish and chips at the beach, ice cream on the prom and café culture at the harbour. The dramatic cliff path walk and miles of golden sand will help work off any excesses!
Bushmills
If you visit Causeway Coast and Glens, make sure the conservation town of Bushmills is on your itinerary. Just two miles from the Giant’s Causeway, its history and people are intertwined with Bushmills Distillery. Experience Bushmills today as it builds a new reputation for local food and arts and crafts.
Cushendall
Come for the jaw dropping scenery, stay for the captivating storytelling. Cushendall is a conservation town, flanked by the Atlantic Ocean and the Lurigethan Mountain in the Glens of Antrim. It is a magical place with a proud people and a tumultuous past. There are many stories to be told.
Cushendun
Some people know Cushendun from Game of Thrones®. Others know it for Mary McBrides pub. A few say it’s the resident goat. But most know it as a pretty village with unusual Cornish style cottages. This enchanting place by the sea, designed to please, is an experience worth having.
Castlerock
Fall under the spell of Castlerock. This small coastal village, in the shadow of Mussenden Temple, is full of character. Walk the beach or the fairways, or bring your surfboard. Have an ice cream on the prom or indulge at the Chocolate Manor. It’s what holidays are made of.
Dungiven
Near the foot of Benbradagh Mountain and nestled in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is Dungiven town. With a fascinating history, the surrounding area is there to explore. Mountains, rivers, castles and ruins, churches and graveyards will both beguile you and distract you on your way.
Kilrea
The history of Kilrea is long and illustrious. The heritage trail tells the story of this proud town. Make sure to see the Fairy Thorn and the panoramic views from the riverside walks . Bring the golf clubs or for some family fun, jump in at The Lake aquapark.
Garvagh
Let’s go to Garvagh for an outdoor adventure. This small town is big for fishing. Helmets on for the new mountain biking trails in Garvagh Forest. Wildlife seem to like it here too and a carpet of bluebells will greet you in May. Oh, and watch out for the Pyramid!
