About

The Dungiven Castle site was the ancestral home of the Ó Catháin clan. A chequered history has seen the site hosting the Skinner Company following the Plantation, the Ogilby family who constructed the current castle and the US Army during World War II. A local pressure group successfully fought council demolition plans in the 2000s and Dungiven Castle is now the home of Gaelcholáiste Dhoire, the second Irish Medium post-primary school to be established in the north.
