About

Craigs Wood is a small wood located on the Long Mountain, accessed from Mullan Road, approx. 2 miles north east of Rasharkin. The wood is made up of various conifer species with no hardwood areas of note. There is a number of forest roads, none of which is waymarked, offering pleasant walking routes on level terrain. The site affords views over the Bann valley and beyond. There is a number of Neolithic tombs in the vicinity of the wood, namely The Broad Stone and Craigs Dolmen, both in State Care, evidence of early Stone Age settlers some 4000 – 6000 years ago. There are no other facilities at this site. The closest villages offering services are Rasharkin and Dunloy, 2.5miles and 4.5 miles distant respectively.
