About

Ballylough Heritage House & Gardens are situated just South of Bushmills, a mile from the
famous Bushmills Distillery and a few miles from many famous tourist attractions.

Ballylough is part of a quiet farming community, with dark skies (when there are no light
shows on), peaceful places to sit, gardens to roam and a 2km Heritage Trail. Ballylough
Castle ruins sit in the back garden, and the ancient walled garden is full of a riot of colour
all year around with flowers, fungi, trees, shrubs and plants of each season.

Bushmills, Portballintrae, Portrush and Ballycastle all have great eating out places.

We will try and help you book your restaurant and help you make plans when you arrive, but we strongly recommend you book your table and venues well in advance, especially when the tourist season is busy. We will arrange for fresh tea and scones to be ready at a pre arranged time between 4 and 6pm (please call us to confirm time of arrival, especially if you need to book later than 6pm.) Breakfast is a hearty full Irish breakfast with lighter options if required. Breakfast is from 8:30 unless pre arranged, and we ask that rooms are cleared by 10:30.

The Heritage Trail maintained by the charity on site, and funded to re-open in 2020, by the Heritage Fund, is available to all guests. It takes you around all the heritage aspects on the site. The charity (Ballylough Living History) have created a downloadable app which acts as your tour guide when on site - this is free and being updated by volunteers, so download a few days before you arrive.

The snowdrops are best January/February, daffodils in March/April, bluebells in May/June. We have pets and animals on site, so apologise that we cannot accept dogs to stay in the house, especially as we keep the rooms allergen free as possible.

The internet is suitable for emails and basic downloads - perfect for that digital detox!
